Although you can save your user name, we won't save your password on your device.

User name and password protection.
If your password is disabled, you can restore access on vanguard.com.

Time-out feature.
Secure areas of our site have built-in timers that terminate your access after a certain period of inactivity.

Masking personal information and other security features

 

To prevent anyone from viewing your bank account number online, we'll only display the last four digits of your account number; preceding digits will be masked by asterisks.

We'll also send confirmation letters or emails when changes are made on your account. If you receive a letter or email confirming a change you didn't authorize, contact us immediately at 888-353-0547.

Vanguard does not sell client or prospective client information—whether it is your personal information or the fact that you are or may become a Vanguard client—to anyone.

Monitoring for fraudulent activity

Vanguard has systems to help spot possible criminal activities. Contact us immediately at 877-223-6977 if you believe your account has been compromised.

Our online fraud policy
Our commitment regarding online security is simple. If assets are taken from your account in an unauthorized online transaction on vanguard.com—and you've followed the steps described in the "Your responsibilities" section of our online fraud policy—we'll reimburse the assets taken from your account in the unauthorized transaction.

We also take care to protect your personal and account information within Vanguard's walls and secure Vanguard's physical properties.

Restricted access to your personal and financial information

 

Only crew members (our term for employees) who need to have access to your information to do their jobs can view your personal and financial information on our internal systems.

Vanguard buildings are locked and patrolled

 

Vanguard crew members need an access card and photo ID to enter our buildings. Vanguard's buildings and properties are also patrolled by security officers 24 hours a day.

Personal information is secured and logged on our systems

 

We take these and other steps to help ensure our systems are secure and available. We:

  • Monitor our internal systems 24 hours a day.
  • Log all system activity so we can validate data at any time.
  • Have a redundant data center in case one data center becomes unavailable.
  • Employ "ethical hackers" and "threat scientists" to test attack models within Vanguard's network.
  • Mask your personal and account information as it's being printed onsite in our mail operations building.

When you call us

When you call Vanguard, we'll take steps to ensure we've verified your identity before discussing personal and financial information. We'll ask you to verify personal information, which may include your security questions you selected as part of the web registration process. You may also request that we ask you for a PIN of your choice over the phone every time you call for extra verification.
