How the microdeposit process works

For your security, Vanguard authenticates your linked bank accounts to ensure that you are authorized to act on the account. We use microdeposits as a part of the authentication process.

You will receive two microdeposits on one business day; these are credits to the bank account. The next business day, we pull the sum of the two deposits back to Vanguard, this will show as a debit to your account. You only need to verify the credits with Vanguard.

Once you receive the microdeposits in your bank account, you can go to your bank information page and enter the two microdeposit credit amounts.

You will only be able to use your bank account for purchases into Vanguard until the authentication process is complete.

How do I complete the microdeposit process?

When you add or maintain a bank online, Vanguard will send you microdeposits (each amount between $.01 and $.99) to that bank account. This is the first step of the authentication process. Call your bank or log on to your bank’s website to find these exact amounts.

Once you find the microdeposit amounts in your bank account, you can go to our bank information page and enter the two amounts.

There is no time limit for entering the microdeposits to authenticate the bank information. Microdeposits do not expire.

If you are a full agent, you can enter microdeposits for the primary account owner through your own vanguard.com profile.
